Friends of Sharpdevotional.com, INTERESTING NEWS!
Advent begins one month from today on Sunday, November 30th! As you know, there will be no Advent email devotionals this year but something better. Instead of 40 daily devotionals, we have a book I’ve written, Advent to Ashes, Volume 1, containing 104 daily devotionals taking you all the way to Ash Wednesday. The book or e-book is available on amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com. (Can you say stocking stuffer?) Pastors, this book is also an excellent resource to help your people grasp a deeper understanding that advent is not about waiting for Christmas to get here, lighting four candles, or reflections on four single words. There is much theology involved in embracing a much larger picture of the significance of the season. Advent to Ashes points us to the life disturbing nature of the season.
I have a second different kind of request. I just finished, Ashes to Fire, Volume 2. These devotionals go from Ash Wednesday through Easter on to Pentecost, 91 more daily devotionals. It’s in process of publication. Fire to Glory, Volume 3 is next and will go from Pentecost to the Transfiguration (87 days), and then Glory to Advent, Volume 4 (112 days) is from the Transfiguration to Advent and will conclude the Christian Year. I realize that adds up to 394 days, but I’ve built in the fluctuating dates of Easter and variable starting days for Advent so no matter what year, you’ll always have a day in the Scriptures.
Now, an unusual request: I would like to put some testimonial blurbs in volume 2 coming from ordinary people from all walks of life. Many of you have been reading these devotionals for several years. What I would like from you, if you so choose, would be for you to send 1-3 sentences about how the devotionals have touched or had an impact on you in regard to: 1) the choice of Scripture, 2) comment on my reflections on the passages, 3) a word about the music or the variety of music selection, or 4) something about the prayers. Pick only one of the 4 choices to write about. Put your name and where you live and or your occupation at the end. Depending on the responses, I will have to make choices as to what to include in volume 2. Just email your blurbs to me by December 1st at dansharp9@gmail.com .
The format in all these books is the same as your advent or Lenten emails in the past. I’ve entitled the four-volume work as Uncommon Devotionals for the Christian Year.
